Change of Snowboarder`s Injury Pattern

Abstract
Snowboarding has become one of the premier alpine sports. The injury profile of the sport has also undergone change along with technological advances in equipment, and changing demographics of the sports participants. This study conducted to analyse the changing patterns of snowboard injuries. Snowboard injuries in Yongpyong ski resort clinic in Kangwon-do, South Korea, were evaluated from 1999 to 2000 and 2003. All injured snowboarders were asked to fill out questionnaires pertaining to demographics, their experience level, equipment, injured body part and injury form. A total of 3,038 snowboarding-related injuries were seen. In 2003, the number of snowboard related injury strikingly increased as much as 2,546, compared with 223 in 1999, 386 in 2000. Women and aged group has increased. Wrist injury has decreased as 16.6% in 2003, compared with 44.0% in 1999-2000, While the injury rate of other parts, except ankle, has increased.
